Go ahead...guess!

There are FIVE of them! Did you guess what they are? From the sounds of them, they sound like a bunch of howler monkies but they are five baby raccoons 5-6 days old. Their eyes and ears are not open. Their little ears are just beginning to flip out from their head and their eyes hopefully will open any time. I've never had 5 at one time so little before. I usually get 1-3 and then further in the season I'll get 1 or two (5 years ago I had 16 babies at one time - but most were a couple of months old and didn't require bottle feeding).

In the mean time, we are back on baby patrol. They are doing great, eating from a nurser well, doing their business well and often and screaming like crazy. So far they only get up once in the night to be fed - usually between midnight and 2 AM and I am on the night shift and early morning shift.

After feeding I rub their head and neck and they pur like kittens. I love that sound! The screaming I could do without. Hopefully once their eyes are open they will settle down a little.

We weren't really prepared for them this year (you know the Big D and all that nonsense) so we scrambled and got together what we could find and made due until Monday when I could go get new nursers and kitten formula. They like the nurser a lot better than the dropper.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; It will be held at the old lumber yard (traditional arts building area over by the county annex). Whispering Pine Alpacas will be there to be sheared and my llamas and alpacas will be there to be sheared.
Come say hi. You can learn the difference between the Llama and Alpaca, pet them both, visit with some spinners and weavers and we will be doing some other fiber demonstrations like wet felting and needle felting.
Come by 10:00 and see my kids and animals in the Brown County Spring Blossom Parade and then wander over to the shearing event. There will be lots of other things going on in BC that day so I'm sure you can find something to do.
Come see Patrick, Jack, Ted, Sidney, Xanchoo and Peach!

<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; He is also my biggest Alpaca. He has an aswesome fleece! So Soft and when you love on him, you just want to bury your face in him he is so soft.
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; His "bangs" are in his eyes most of the time. He is a Suri Alpaca so you can see the difference in the two breeds of Alpacas when you visit. He is a bit high strung too so you may be able to pet him or maybe not.

So today the Princess turns 14! Yes, I begin and end my week with my children turning another year older.

Here she is with Holly her alpaca (who sadly passed away a year ago this past December ;-0( ) Holly was a real character, she liked to compete in the PR events during the fair because she liked to dress up and show off. She did not like showmanship because it was boring. She did like obstacles because she got to run and jump over things, she tolerated pack class and liked the water hazard the best because she could lay down in it. We miss her a lot.

Anyway, 14 years ago today I was lounging around St. Vincent hospital waiting for the Princess (or Lula Bell as I call her) to make her appearance. She DID NOT want to be born! She was born on a Tuesday evening (almost Wednesday) and I had been induced with her the day before at 9:00 AM. Yes, she took her sweet time!

My parents came from Iowa to be with me and my friend Beth was there too and everyone kept coming in to entertain me for the day. The doctors and nurses kept coming in to see how things were moving along, and they weren't. At one point, they said that they needed to make a decision because she was in distress (this freaked me out). I guess that was the motivation she needed because things started to progress a little faster after that. It was still several hours before she was actually here I think total of 38 hours from the time they started to induce until she finally made it out. Can you say STUBORN? Not much has changed and I have NO IDEA where she gets it from - must be from her dad's side of the family ;-0)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LULA BELL!

Happy Birthday Soldier Boy!

My baby turns 8 today! I can hardly believe it. I remember the day he was born.
I had a doctors appointment and he was overdue. We made the decision to induce the next day and while I was standing with the nurse to make the appointment my water broke. I told her either my water broke or I just wet my pants. She said well now lets just go back in and have a look see and then decide what to do with you.

Sure enough my water had broken and they sent me straight to the hospital. I had the girl child with me and the dad person was on the road in Maryland. I was making frantic phone calls to who ever I could reach at the time...the girl child's dad - who came to the hospital to retreive her, my mom who then took over trying to reach the dad person - she was in Iowa, I'm in Indiana, he's somewhere in Maryland. All very exciting stuff. This all happened between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.

I did manage to drive myself to the hospital and when we got there I had a flat tire. The girl child's dad took care of that for me too.

I got checked in and put in a room and there I sat having very mild contractions that were really close. The nurse kept coming in to "check" to see if we needed to call the doctor in yet and nope, it wasn't time yet. About 9:00 pm she said it was time and the doctor arrived about 9:30 and the boy was born at 9:50.

I remember I was starving after he was born and the cafateria was closed and the nurse found a turkey tv dinner in the freezer so that is what I had to eat.

Here he is in his digital camos that I got him for his birthday. He was so excited with them that he wore them to school today. He wants to grow up and go into the air force and fly F22 Raptors.

I better not blink or that day will be tomorrow. I hate that my babies are growing up!

Projects Projects and More Projects

I know Christmas has come and gone, but as we all know, I am behind...These are some of the ornaments I made this year for co-workers and friends. They are free standing lace made on the embroidery machine and then I added the bead work. They are really pretty hanging on the tree with the lights. I'm not exactly sure how many I ended up making this year but I had 6 boxes of bulbs in four different colors most of the boxes had either 8 or 12 bulbs. I still have a few left so if you want the math challenge, knock yourself out.
In and amongst the ornaments, I was also making door prizes and auction items for two different 4-H awards dinners.
Every year I make a free standing lace bowl with the 4-H logo and fill it with candy for a door prize and since my kids are in 4-H in two different counties, we have two dinners and I make a bowl for each. The pink bowl was made for an auction item. All the money from the auction goes into 4-H scholarships.

I've been busy since Christmas making rugs (and curtains) - sadly no pictures yet. I just finished a rug for the boy in his favorite colors of blue and orange. He wants to put it in front of his bed in his new room when (if) we ever get a house to live in. The goal at the moment is to have something in place by the end for the school year. If we don't, we can't stay where we are (in the county, in the current schools etc.). I am really fighting moving back to Indy because I don't want to go back into apartment living and give up the animals. BUT there is nothing affordable with land to rent in the county where we are.

We looked at another house on Wednesday and everyone loves it. However there is a pending offer and we are waiting to hear if their financing went through or not. The kids are hoping not (not in a mean way but you know) so that we can make an offer and our funding is almost in place.

Anyway, back to some more finished projects.

I made this (Free Standing Lace) bowl for the boys teacher for Halloween. All 5 sides have a different ghost on it, and I made these little ghosts for his classmates (and some of my co-workers). There is a tootsie Pop inside each one. Everyone at work thought they were hilarious! I thought they were pretty cute too and were pretty fast to sew out and do.

For Thanksgiving, I made a bunch of Turkeys and pumpkins that were centerpieces for our Boy Scout Thanksgiving dinner. They also ended up being door prizes to one lucky person at each table. I also made a "grand" prize turkey for one lucky person.

All the boys took one of their den meetings to make place setting
turkeys for each guest in their family who would be attending our little shindig. They are made of Oreo cookies, candy corn, malt balls, mini reese peanut butter cuts and all held together with frosting. They were so fun to make and the boys got to eat the broken pieces. I think they broke the cookies on purpose just so they could eat them.

I have more finished project to share but not today. The kids have been out of school the last two days and two days last week so it's looking like the school year will be getting longer.
We've got so much snow that we were able to go snowmobiling yesterday (for a very short time - because my new career as a snowmobiler came to a crashing end).
Here the boy and I are getting ready to take off - we didn't come back the way we left. While we were trying to turn around, I got caught in a snow bank and slid and ended up tipping us over into the guide lines of the power pole. Nice! The boy was screaming - I thought he was really hurt - he wasn't, but he milked it for all it was worth. We had a miraculous healing this morning I'm told. Anyway, needless to say we were done with the fun for the day ;-(

The daughter and I did come back (all before the unfortunate end to my new career). We had a lot of fun while it lasted.

It reminded me of my childhood in Iowa and our neighbors had snowmobiles and they used to take us out on them.

Last Friday between the snow storms, we had a Llama Club meeting. We cleaned up the barn a bit and then took some of the Girls out for a walk. Three of the four we took are pregnant and I think are due at the end of April through about June.

We have the girl and boy child in front walking Alexis and Melody.

At right we have the boy child and Melody. We think that one of ours (Sid) is with cria as well but I don't know for sure as she isn't showing the "normal" signs (spitting at the males) but she has become very affectionate which I'm told she does when she is pregnanat. She has also put on some weight so it's either she is pregnant or just fat. I'm hoping for pregnant because I really want a baby and if she is my best guess is she will be due in some time this summer. We are also planning to breed Peach this spring as well for next spring so one way or another I'll get my crias. We may test Sid with Paso this spring as well just to be sure.

Before I go for today, Happy Belated Valentines Day! I worked for a little bit on Sunday - the pizza business doesn't stop and we had a V-day promo going and then the kids went skating with the church. My boss gave me a small box of chocolates because he said I didn't have a valentine this year because of my "situation" (that's what he is calling the divorce - a situation). I didn't tell him that even though I had been married for over 9 years I only got something for valentiene's day one time in 2006. I got Jack my alpaca and a dozen roses. I just accepted his candy and sat in my office and cried. Then I went rollar skating with the kids.

Happy Belated New Year!

If I've told you once, I'll tell you a million times, I can't be trusted to update here on a regular basis.
When last we were together, I was telling you about the sad little house...well, it turned out to be worse than we thought. I had my friend Greg (he and his wife Vicki are boarding my animals while we look for a house) come up to take a look and give me the straight scoop. Greg does house restoration for a living so I figured who better to ask.
Not only did the house need a new roof and gutters, new plumbing and electric, but it is termite infested inside and out. There is no septic system in place other than a hose run out from the corner of the basement. The day we went back, there was water puddled in the basement and upon further investigation, we found that three of the four walls were bowing with deep cracks. So, along with everything else, the basement walls would need to be rebuilt too at which point the decision for me was made that if we went further, we would build a new house. The land is perfect for what we need but the house definitely is not. We stood around and joked about the bank who has the property when they said the house could be made livable for $20,000. It would take that much just to make the basement sound and then three to four times that to do all the other work that needs to be done before moving in.
The boy child and I went tonight to look at another house which was much better but the land is a little wonky. We could make it work but we are going to watch the property and keep looking.
The next hurdle is being able to get a loan to even buy a house but I am working on that and will do whatever it takes to make it happen for my kids.
So last year my new year's resolution was to learn to blog which I did (I don't do it well but it's a start). My other resolution was to finish the socks I started the year before. I still need to finish those socks ;-0) I'm finding that knitting in the round on double pointed needles isn't as easy as some make it look.
My resolution this year is to get my kids secure in a house and move on from the crap that has been our life the last year. Fingers crossed, it will be over the first of March.
If I have time tomorrow, I will try my very best to be back here with some photos of cute animals and finished projects.
y

A Sad Little House

So the kids and I are needing a place to move to. Jack (my hay guy) told me about a farm house just up the road from him that the family had lost. I didn't think to much about it and asked a realator friend to check it out not really thinking I could afford "a farm" but what would it hurt to at least check it out?
Well, we went yesterday to check it out and it was sad. The price is right (more than right), but the house "needs work". As in it needs all new wiring, plumbing, a roof, gutters, sheetrock, doors and windows. The foundation is sound and the flooring is in good shape it's just everything else.
We really want to keep our animals and we could if we got this property 7+ acres, with a partial barn.
Luckily I have friends who can help guide me and give me the straight scoop as to whether we gut the house and fix it up (which I can see the potential in my head - but sometimes my head is a very scary place), or if we tear it down and move something else in.
It would be so very cool if I could get my kids a house for Christmas.
Gotta go and get my plants watered and everything else gathered up to get ready for the big eve party. I also should probably finish the couple of gifts too.
Later
y

BUSY (and then some)

It seems I can't be trusted to update here on a regular basis. Sorry...been really busy!
Halloween came and went, Thanksgiving came and went and here in just four days we have Christmas! My, where does the time go?
Normally this time of year between the middle of October to the middle of December I am knee deep in making ornaments for various organizations (my girl scout troop started 8 years ago makeing ornaments for the BC TRIAD and it grew from there). Last year we made over 1,000 ornaments that were divided up between a few organizations with the majority going over seas to Afghanistan and Iraq with Hoosiers Helping Our Troops. This year because of the BIG D and the organizer of HHOT in Hospice and the working of two jobs and raisng two kids and trying to stay sane in the midst of it all I just flat out didn't have the time to devote to the full out ornament project this year. Maybe next year. I really enjoy the project and the kids (the girl scouts, boy scouts and 4-H) that I work with really like the project to (however by the time it is over they are all sick of it). It is really great when we get a thank you note and the kids (my son especially) love the notes that come from the soldiers and I think the notes help them understand a little bit more what the project and thier time mean to other people. The cub scouts did manage to make about 100 ornaments this year and they went to the TRIAD who put them in the gift boxes to needy families in the county.
I've also been busy with all the shopping and making for Christmas. I have a few co-workers left for tomorrow and then all the work folks are done. The package going to my family is leaving today. We can't go to Iowa for Christmas this year because of the BIG D and what I had to do to keep my son safe and hopefully that will be over soon and we can make the trip.
Lots of other stuff going on and I will try to get here to update. I have lots of pictures to share and other news.
Gota run and get to the post office.
y

It's Been A While (69 Days To Be Exact)

So sorry it has been so long, been really busy!

When last we met, I mentioned that we had the county and state fair coming up. All in all, they had a very good year considering this was their first year working together and this was the first year that Peach had EVER been worked with. We have a parade this weekend and then we are done until next spring when we start back up and get ready for the Kentuckiana show in April.

This is Wyatt Erp (my God Llama)...he is an awesome Llama that a friend rescued from the humane society last November. Since my friend didn't have a way to transport him, I went and got him for her and delivered him to her place. He had some issues. When we got him, he was under weight, had knarly nails (which he still has, but we are working on them), and really rough fleece. But, he had an awesome personality! Once we got him in the trailer (one of us pulling and one of us pushing - he isn't a big fan of the trailer) and "home", we started giving him lots of TLC and he has put on weight, we are getting his nails straightend out and after we got him sheared and cleaned up, we found he had some nice fleece start to come back in. Well, since last November Wyatt has lost his new home, but found a new one. Again, I had the duty of taking him to his new (and I hope forever) home.

It's time for a nap! The day I was out taking these images he kept yawning. He finally went and laid down to take a nap.

Here are my babies Pactrick (laying down) and Jack (standing). They are down with Wyatt for the time being until we can find a new place to live. They love it where they are at...lots of grass to roll around in and eat!
And, on a sad note, Virgina got out of her house outside and is missing. If you see a sloth possum out sauntering around who likes chocolate icecream and cookies, let us know! Here are the kids from our club that attended. There are two that are missing who couldn't stay for the third day. Overall our 8 kids (of over the 100 kids that participated) did VERY well in the competitions. My two llamas are the two in the Middle Xancoo and Peach (they are brother and sister). Xanny took first in showman ship, second in PR, second in obstacles and fourth in pack. Very good showing for this being his second show. He has a very good handler this year. Peach got first in fleece.

We are now getting ready for our county fair and then after that will be the state fair and then we are done showing until next spring.

Here we have Peach and the daughter with the judge during Intermediate showmanship. There were over 30 kids in this division that they split it in two. I have a feeling the state fair will be huge as well this year. Peach is a good girl and this is her first year being shown and she is we think about three years old. She is very inquisitive and is so funny sometimes. She is self loading when it comes to the trailer meaning we don't have to halter and lead her to get her to go in. Not a lot of llamas will do that.

All three llamas and the three alpacas all have different personalities which is very fun sometimes and others not so much. Everyone asks the first time they meet one of them "they spit right?" or "I'm not getting near it cause I don't want to get spit on". As far as the spitting is concerned, they mostly spit at each other and it's mostly over food. However if you irritate one they will usually give you a warning before they give you a good spit. And, look out if you do get spit on because it is going to stink!

If you have a chance to visit your county or state fair check to see if they are having a llama show and go check it out. You will learn a lot and see some amazing animals.

Random Animalness

This week I have been helping the children work on their 4-H projects for the upcoming fairs that we are participating in. Of all of our Lamas he is the talker of the bunch. *Lamas with one L is to include both the Llama and Alpaca family.

This is Snickers.

We got her last year when

she looked like the photo on the left (which is her at about 3 weeks old). She came from a farm where her mama had her in someones attic. The owners decided to evict mama and then found out she had babies. There were two of them and her sibling decided he would rather live in a tree and we couldn't get him down.

I picked snickers up and brought her home and we bottle fed her and she grew up and moved to the big house outside and accidentally met up with Scooter and this year Snickers became a mama herself.

She has four little ones that she is done with (meaning they are weaned). She is a really good mom and is still just as friendly as ever and will let you pick her up and carry her around still. She is also a thief so if you come for a visit leave your shiny stuff in the car because she will take it.

Here are part of the Lama gang and Marley. They were all very curious about each other. Our two femals were very concerned and tried to "mother" him over the fence. They all sniffed and inspected him but none of them ever tried to spit at him or scare him off in any way.

Here we have a reappearance of Virginia. This is a baby picture with Bo. She was such a cute little thing. She went through many "looks" as she grew from the mouse/rat

looking thing when we first found her to the

little hedgehog looking thing here to the possum look she has today.

The only thing that never really

changed was her tail and it seems to be

the one thing most people comment on when they meet her for the first time. That and all of her teeth when she yawns.

Bo was such a good "daddy" to all of the baby critters. Virgina used to climb all over him and he never minded a bit . Above we have her making the rounds through the house.

Well, that's it for today. Next up some Lama Love and maybe some cats and dogs.

later

Meet Virginia

Hope you all had a Great 4th! Yes, she is a possum who thinks she is a Cat. She eats with them and sometimes naps with them if her bed is out to be washed.

They (the cats) try to in turn "play" with her but she doesn't play. She saunters through the house with a cat trying to play with her tail and she just goes on. Her tail does come in handy though as the kids use it as her handle to pick her up by.

She "can" hang by her tail but she doesn't like it (I think it givers her vertigo) as she trys to grab at whatever she can to right herself.

During the day she can usually be found either under a chair in the living room or behind the bed in my room or maybe wrapped up in a blanket left lying on the floor. At night she wanders around the house and may wake you up with her VERY cold nose in your ear unless someone happens to think to find her and put her in her cage for the night.

She's coming up on her first birthday (or maybe it has passed - they are so small when they are born it was hard to guess how old she really was when we found her). We found her last Summer in August right after her mama had been hit by a car. She was sooooo tiny! We think she may have been riding on mama's back when she was hit and Virgina was thrown - just guessing of course. We bottle fed her for a couple of months and then got her weened to cat food and now she eats cat food and has a sweet tooth for cookies and suckers and anything else she can find to get into. She also uses the cat litter box (most of the time).

She's a really good "cat" and she doesn't give you any lip like the other cats do and she is a pretty good conversation piece as well.

The End

What About Bob?

Bob...or Cookie Bob...or Fluffy...or Little Bit all belong to this fellow. He was found by the neighbor kids in a sticker bush when he was about 3 maybe 4 weeks old (his eyes were still blue) with matted eyes. They called us to see if we would take him since their one son is allergic to cats. I said yes, we would take him (what's one more with the already 5 we had) and nurse him and clean him up BUT he could not stay forever. The little neighbor girl named him Fluffy which lasted until she left. We sat around that night trying to come up with a name and then my daughter said what about Cookie and so Cookie it was. At this point we had no idea what sex it was (because I can NEVER tell when they are that little which is why we have a female named Fred). When we finally figured out it was a boy my son said that Cookie was a girls name and he was going to call him Bob. So Cookie is now Bob or Cookie Bob to some.
Well Bob hung around for about 5 weeks as we did find someone to take him and give him a home. While he was with us though, he was a favorite chew toy for the basset puppy Daisy and a great little play mate for Little Bear the raccoon. Once Bob went to his new home, Little Bear became just that...a Bear and rebellious because her best friend was gone. Daisy has since found other things to chew on (mostly shoes and dirty laundry).

Here we have Little Bear and Bob tussling and carrying on and generally having a good time.

So that is the story of Bob.

And if you need a good movie to watch this forth of July weekend why not watch What About Bob with Bill Murry and Richard Dreyfuss - great movie and very funny...kinda like Bob the cat.

The Little Deer

So I get this call a couple weeks ago as I'm walking in the door from Bible School. My first thought is don't answer the phone, let it go to the recorder. I picked the phone up anyway (in the garage) and it's our Scout Master wanting to know if I can help a deer? His friend has called him to see if he knows anyone who can help him and he called our Cub Master (who wasn't home yet from the same Bible School) so he called me. The story I got was his friend's daughter found a baby deer that day being attacked by dogs. She thinks the dead deer she saw on the road might be his mom but she wasn't sure but the little deer was hurt so she picked it up and took it home.

I'm hearing this story and thinking a little deer attacked by dogs, it's got part of his rump missing and bites on his face etc. and I'm picturing this bloody mess in my head but agree to go meet the friend and see what I could do (you know being the vet that I am).

Anyway, I met the friend and met the little scared deer and it wasn't nearly as bad as what I was pictureing in my head. He did have a bite on the side of his face and a bite on his rump but it wasn't visiable when his fur was smoothed over it. He was dehydrated because the friend said he wouldn't drink anything and I had a bottle and some formula and forced it down his throat. We loaded him up and brought him home.

We tended to his wounds and fed him some more and put him to bed in the bathroom.

The next day he was walking around downstairs and discoved "the cave" (under the desk where our dogs like to lay) and made himself at home.

He didn't like the bottle but would drink from a bowl and then he found the fountain in the living room and started drinking from that too.

He finally got a name (other than Bambi and dinner) of Marley - don't ask, the three year old neice in Texas named him.

Here is Marley and Bay so you can see either how small he really is or how big the bassett is. The bassett out weighed him by probably45 pounds.

This is Marley with Bob the kitten relaxing in "the cave".
Bob is also the favorite chew toy of Marley (and Daisy and Little Bear). Bob has since found a new home and is no longer a chew toy. I'll tell you more about Bob later.

Anyway, Marley seemed to be making progress and would go outside and do his business and talk to the Llamas and generally explore the back yard.

A week after we brought him home he had a seizure and died. We have no idea what caused it other than he may have had some internal injuries we couldn't see. In any case with all of the young animals we have dealt with over the years, when they are so young there is never any guarantee that they will make it and if at all possible it is best that they stay with their mothers. Only his mother had been killed so it was up to us. I feel bad not knowing if there was more we could have done for him or if we did something wrong but he was eating good and getting pleanty to drink and he was pooping and peeing just fine so it's a mystery.

I still miss him though.

A little (or a lot) behind

If you notice the title of this post, this is the state of my life most of the time. Following is the second (and last) post from the old blog so as you can tell, I'm a little behind.

From late January or early February 2009.

So, pretend it's two weeks ago and I haven't skipped any days in this new blog adventure. I've been busy, how about you? In the last two weeks, I'v started a new job and three new projects, finished a couple old ones and day dreamed about catching up with all the nonsence in life. I even have a few pictures to show you but sadly I can't find the cable to my camera so I can get them out of the camera and I don't have a card reader that small in my computer AND the external card reader I have I can't find that either.

I can't find a lot of stuff lately and it could be because my office is a mess and when the husband cleans he just throws everything in a drawer or a box and shoves it somewhere to be discovered sometime in the future.

Currently, I'm going through all the crap from last year getting ready to go do our taxes. Sometimes I think I'd rather have root canal than do taxes. In any event we should have lots of fun this year since we are shopping for a new tax person. Someone who will do our farm expenses without a lot of hassel. So, on top of all the other stuff I'm hunting that...YEAH! Oh, and I almost forgot all the crap going on from a car accident two years ago. I hit a kid in his car but it was his fault, he turned in front of me (and it was witnessed by an on duty Indianapolis police officer). His insurance admitted fault but now they won't pay after they said they would. I am so angry and just want to stomp my foot everytime I think about it!

Anyway, I'm hoping I won't have to get a lawyer that I don't want and can't afford, but it's looking like that may have to be what happens. Someone told me today that my insurance company should go after them for me. I'm going to check into that. Anyway, gotta run for today as I have a meeting to get to - yet more fun and frolic ;-0)Later!

Welcome to my world

Hello and thanks for stopping by. Following is a post that I had back in January on a different blog that I started (and then promptly forgot about). I'm going to try my very best to keep up with this one as I'm sure there is plenty of riveting stuff out there that I know about and that you don't and you must know. So here is the first post from my last attempt at blogging. ENJOY!

Happy New Year...Almost

You know some folks are very diligent about sitting down and making their New Year's resolution list each year...me, not so much. But, I do like to have ONE thing that I plan to learn or accomplish each year, and this year is learning more about blogging (aren't we all lucky ). I've been reading them for years and I always say that I'm going to start one and I never do so this is my New Year's learning adventure for 2009. That and finishing the socks I'm teaching myself to knit from 2008.

So, the close of 2008 has been kinda sad for my family this year. On November 30th we lost our beloved bassett hound Bo. He was our challenging child as I'm sure all families have one. He liked to sneak out of the back yard under the fence every chance he got. My husband called it range wars. We would find his hole and plug it and he would find a new one within a day. Well, he got out and got hit by a car. We love you buddy and we miss you so much!

We hadn't yet recovered from Bo's death when our Alpaca Holly got sick.

She lost her baby in late October and about two weeks later she got really sick. We put her in the heated garage and nursed her for a week or so giving her antibiotics and keeping her warm. After a few days she wanted to go back out with everyone else so we put a coat on her and sent her back to the herd and kept an eye on her and she seemed to be better so we quit worring about her. Then on the 20th we found her in the barn sick again. We brought her back to the garage and nursed her for a couple days, called the vet and got stronger medicine and a day or so later she wanted to go back out so we let her and then on the 22nd she passed away. The vet was on his way but she died before he could get there.

This is Holly in full fleece last spring before we sheared herMy daughter showed her in 4-H and was devastated when she died as were we all.It was very sad last night when we got home from Christmas in Iowa and everyone came running to the fence to say "Hi" and there was no Holly. It will take us a very long time to get over her.

I'm going to send her fleece out to be processed and make something special for the daughter and hopefully myself.
